Earthship Biotecture is planning a project in Haiti to help with the recovery from the massive earthquake. Earthship disaster recovery and relief: Quick shelter for 12 people providing potable water, contained sewage treatment and can be rapidly replicated by the people. [details updated regularly]
We are going. We need your help. We are sending a small team of five people with a documentary film maker. We will incorporate local materials and situations to produce quick shelter with water and sanitation (sewage treatment) based on our experience. The construction steps and techniques will be taught to the local people with the goal of sustainable design and construction spreading through all the recovery efforts.
The project is focused on short term urgent needs and taking steps toward long term needs that existed before the earthquake hit. We are combining instant structures for 16 people each - (a tent within a tent to create a space for insulation) - with earthship technologies applied for the systems. We need to fund travel and accommodations for our team and some materials to take with us including tarps, ropes and minor tools. We are planning to go to Haiti in March or April.
